Are netbooks in threat because of tablets?

Surprisingly, this line will never die out anytime soon; it has been on since the Apple iPad has been unveiled. Well now, here it is again. Experts are concerned that due to the number of tablets being released, the netbook market might just crumble. Actually, this was meant to be an Apple iPad and Asus netbooks war, let’s see how far this one goes.

The industry, important people in the industry, has reported that next year there will be a significant fall in the sales of Asus netbooks in the market, all because of iPads. The estimated percentage is said to be about 25% and the findings were compared to the number of Asus shipments this year and next year. Shipments for the netbooks have been decreasing as people now prefer to own a tablet or rather iPad than carry around a portable laptop.

In 2010 alone, Asus has shipped a total amount of six million Eee PCs while for next year the company will ship about 4.5 million of netbooks. In 2009, Asus shipped a total of 6.8 million netbooks and there is just a small difference between this year’s shipments and last year’s shipments. Let’s see how it goes in 2011; the same thing was said when netbooks were born.
